Vinyl Planks

Now the leading flooring sold and for very good reasons.

Vinyl planks are cost effective and a lot cheaper than any timber flooring option on the market. They are not cold like tiles and do not have grout lines that let’s be honest only get dirty.

The technology that has developed the new designs of vinyl planks has created what we call 4th Generation; this means that the print you see is also the texture you feel. The micro bevel edge creates a real timber look when critical light reflects, new colours constantly coming out (hundreds to choose from).

Vinyl is a solid product that is glued to the subfloor, waterproof and comes with a lifetime warranty.

Commercial Vinyl

Is suited for areas such as wet areas, Kitchens or even hospitals. These vinyls are a specialised range that needs to meet certain slip ratings and wear layers for the safety of others.

Installation is different to any other vinyl flooring it requires trained and specialised installers.

We here at Totally Flooring Gold Coast have the experience that you require to do any job.

Rubber Flooring

Rubber flooring can be used in numerous ways. Such as acoustic rubber underlay for tiles or timber flooring to meet acoustic sound reports for body corporate or for your own personal reasons. Rubber absorbs sound and stops sound from passing through which is a massive bonus to any flooring when used as an underlay.

If you are using Rubber Flooring such as for a gym, conference room, walk areas or even maybe an entrance way always listen to the experts in the trade as there are many decisions to make. One of these is it should always be installed by qualified installer and another really important tip is always make sure you have your rubber flooring sealed; this ensures you that the product will be easy maintenance and last you a lifetime.

Rubber comes in all different thickness, colours, shape and length to sit the requirements you need. Contact us today if you have any questions

Benefits of Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl flooring really comes into its own in the kitchen and bathroom. These are usually the two busiest rooms in any home, and their floors see a lot of foot traffic. They are also places where water and other substances are likely to be spilled.

One of the major advantages of vinyl flooring is that it’s easy to clean. With a quick wipe with a cloth or mop, any spillages are history. Vinyl also resists wear very well. As a tough polymer, it is not affected by feet, shoes, boots or even furniture. As it’s so easy to clean, all areas can look good as new whatever punishment they take.

The vinyl flooring Gold Coast families love also offers flexibility and value for money. It comes in sheeting or tiles, for a start. Sheeting is the most cost effective and is also easiest to clean. If you have a lot of floor space, sheeting is probably the most practical vinyl application. Tiles, on the other hand, can be arranged however you like, and replaced individually if needs be.

Many people like vinyl tiles as they can resemble ceramic or wood floor coverings. They can also be mixed up colour-wise to give rooms an individual touch. If one or two tiles get damaged they are easy to replace. Vinyl is great value for money. In fact, it’s often the most affordable floor covering on the market. All in all, vinyl has a lot of benefits for the modern home!

How Are Vinyl Planks Made?

They are constructed in layers primarily from calcium carbonate (limestone), polyvinyl chloride and pigments structured between backing layers and the top photographic layer which is coated in a PVC embossed wear layer (to provide texture) and lastly it’s PU or Protective coating.

Find Out More

What Thickness Do Vinyl Planks Come In?

Vinyl planks come in various thicknesses from 2mm-5mm combined also with varying thicknesses of protective wear layers. A common miss conception is that the thicker the vinyl, the better the quality, or harder wearing it will be. This is a myth. The performance and durability of the product comes mostly down to the thickness of its wear layer (also referred to as it’s PU coating) anything with a PU coating of .5mm and above is considered commercial/ heavy duty and is used widely in shopping centres all across Australia so is more than suitable for the wear and tear of everyday domestic homes.

Do Vinyl Planks Actually Look Like Timber

Another major factor in the quality of a vinyl plank is determined by the definition of the photographic layer which gives it its “realistic” appearance to timber (or tile) and also the amount (if any) of repetition that occurs within this. As with most things you really do get what you pay for and you will find that more expensive suppliers on the market spend a lot more attention to details such as these and therefore you pay a premium for their products.

When Would I Choose Vinyl Planks?

If you have varying floor heights to consider or do not wish to remove and re-fit your skirting boards then Vinyl planks might be the option for you. Offering a more flexible plank that it’s floating floor comparisons – vinyl planks can be ramped to meet differing floor heights within your home if required. They also offer great acoustic properties for multi-level dwellings, with 5mm products usually meeting current Australian standards without the need for an additional acoustic underlay.

What Else Should I Know About Vinyl Planks?

One important factor to consider, that we cannot stress enough! (as with any flooring) is subfloor preparation. We will assess your independent situation and determine the best options for your individual needs as each home is unique and therefore there is no “standard” option for everyone. To meet current Australian Standards we will ALWAYS supply and install a skim coat prior to installation of vinyl to prime your concrete subfloor, and- if required, look at alternate measures of concrete grinding, self-levelling compounds or the use of installing ply board sheeting etc. to adequately prepare your floor. Failure to do so correctly will result in visible imperfections in your floor such as gapping planks, a “wavy” appearance with light or visible tile grout impressions (if installed over tiles incorrectly) and will in most cases void your product warranties from the suppliers.

Aside from affordability, vinyl is waterproof, hardwearing and easy to maintain. Talk to our team about installing vinyl floors at your home on the Gold Coast today.

  • How long does it take to install vinyl flooring in a room?

This depends on the size of the room and the complexity of the job, however it’s likely your vinyl installation will not take any longer than a day.

  • How long does vinyl flooring last?

Vinyl flooring tends to last anywhere from 10 to 20 years, especially if they have been well installed and consistently cleaned and maintained.

  • Why choose Totally Flooring's vinyl flooring services?

Totally Flooring is a renowned name on the Gold Coast when it comes to vinyl flooring solutions. Understanding the demands of modern homes in areas like Browns Plains, Jimboomba, Yarrabilba and Beaudesert, we cater to both aesthetic and functional needs. Our vinyl flooring options strike the right balance between style and practicality, making them an ideal choice for households bustling with activity, especially those with pets or those frequently entertaining guests. Our expertise in the domain allows you to enjoy the dual benefits of vinyl’s visual appeal and practicality.

  • What is vinyl flooring?

Vinyl flooring is a versatile floor covering crafted primarily from materials like calcium carbonate (limestone), polyvinyl chloride and various pigments. It can manifest as sheets or tiles, providing you with flexibility in design and application. Vinyl stands out for its robustness, user-friendly maintenance and inherent water resistance.

  • What is LVT flooring?

LVT, or Luxury Vinyl Tile, represents a premium category of vinyl flooring that offers an elevated look and feel compared to its standard counterpart. LVT often mirrors the appearance of natural elements like wood or stone, owing to its high-definition photographic layer. This layer ensures the texture one feels aligns seamlessly with the print one observes, rendering a touch of realism to the flooring.

  • What not to do with vinyl floors?

While vinyl floors are celebrated for their durability and ease of upkeep, it’s important to ensure the subfloor is adequately prepared before installation. Installing vinyl on an imperfect subfloor without the necessary preparation can lead to undesirable outcomes like an undulating appearance. It’s equally important to steer clear of laying vinyl over tiles without the right preparation, as this can result in the visibility of tile grout impressions and might even nullify product warranties.

  • Is vinyl flooring 100% waterproof?

Absolutely, vinyl flooring boasts a 100% waterproof nature, making it a prime choice for areas that are exposed to moisture or frequent spillages, such as kitchens and bathrooms. This quality ensures the flooring’s longevity and consistent appearance over the years.

  • What maintenance does vinyl flooring require?

Vinyl flooring is known for its low maintenance requirements. Regular sweeping and occasional mopping are usually sufficient to keep it looking its best. For spillages, a quick wipe with a damp cloth will do the trick. It’s essential to avoid abrasive cleaning tools or harsh chemicals, as they might damage the floor’s surface.

  • Is vinyl flooring suitable for commercial spaces?

Yes, certain types of vinyl flooring, like commercial vinyl, are designed for commercial spaces. These vinyl types meet specific slip ratings and wear layers to ensure the safety of the public. Installation for commercial vinyl differs from other types and requires trained installers. Contact us today for commercial vinyl flooring installation.
